Đurić: Brussels to solve the truck blockade problem

30 March 2016

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić told RTS that the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić will visit Kosovo and Metohija on Sunday, 3 April, stressing this will represent strong support for the people in this area during these tough and unstable times. He pointed out that no one is preventing any trucks with any substances from entering Serbia Proper and what Priština is doing has nothing to do with the economy or rational behaviour.

"Prime Minister will meet with Trepča miners in Leposavić, and he will visit Kosovska Mitrovica. I believe that for the people in that area this will represent strong support in these tough and unstable times," Đurić said.

For seven days, no vehicles carrying dangerous substances, including petroleum products, have entered Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia Proper due to reciprocity measures, and Đurić says that what is happening with the trucks no longer makes any sense.

"We are not preventing anybody's trucks carrying any kind of substances from entering Serbia Proper, and we haven't prevented Priština's trucks either. I am asking EU representatives how long they will tolerate this unilateral blockade, which is harmful both to the economy and the citizens," Marko Đurić stressed.

He says Priština has crossed all lines and entered the zone of unacceptable behaviour.

"We certainly have limits to our patience and will not watch silently. The story of reciprocal measures is made up. We have been letting trucks from Priština through all the time in the most routine way, but will not wait silently for our interests to be trampled, and there is little room to solve the problem," Đurić said.

He says this has nothing to do with the economy or with rational behaviour.

"We call on them once again to solve the problem they have created themselves to all of us," Đurić said.

He added that the status change for the University of Kosovska Mitrovica has not been planned.

"We are proud of the University of Kosovska Mitrovica and of 12,000 students learning and working there. Nothing will change and we will continue to support this University, which is the backbone of our future in Kosovo and Metohija," Đurić pointed out.
