UN Security Council sessions irritate separatists in Priština because they prove that nothing has been resolved in Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić told RTS. The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stresses that he has not received any documents from Priština regarding the investigation of the murder of Oliver Ivanović. Vučić’s visit to Kosovo and Metohija has helped the people in Kosovo and Metohija be seen and this sparked a wave of solidarity, Djurić said.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, said that the adoption of the European Commission’s Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkans is good and important news.
“The Strategy shows that Serbia is in a better place in the international community and that its reputation has grown, which means a lot in terms of the struggle for the preservation of Kosovo and Metohija”, Djurić said in RTS news, adding that “it is no wonder that Priština is a bit jealous”.
A good relationship with the EU is important for Serbia’s overall foreign policy position.
“However, I would like to see the Community of Serbian Municipality (CSM) mentioned more often in all documents requesting for Priština’s cooperation. CSM has not been put on the forefront enough”, Djurić believes.
The Report by Antonio Guterres on the work of UNMIK will be before the Security Council today.
“UN Security Council sessions irritate separatists in Priština because they prove that nothing has been resolved in Kosovo and Metohija, even though they tried to resolve the status. At the world organization level and for the majority of the population of this planet, this topic has not been regulated as it suits them. For us, it is a chance to tell the truth about the suffering of our people and I believe that Serbia is represented well there”, Djurić said.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija says that, despite claims from Priština, Belgrade has not received a single document on the investigation of the murder of Oliver Ivanović.
“I talked to all competent institutions yesterday. Nobody received any information from Priština, which says a lot about the nature of the investigation, the intentions of those leading the investigation. There is something wrong there”, Djurić said.
“Much work has been done in Kosovo and Metohija”
Asked whether the problems of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija could have been resolved earlier, before the visit of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, Djurić said that a lot has been done in the previous period.
“Vučić’s visit meant something to the Serbs because it showed that Serbia is with them. It helped the people in Kosovo and Metohija be seen, to be seen by Serbia and this sparked a wave of solidarity”, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said.
He points out that a “mountain of work” has been done in the previous period.
“There isn’t a house which Serbia has not entered with its help, people are staying thanks to this”, Djurić said, emphasizing that 42 churches and monasteries have been restored, new hospitals, doctors’ offices and maternity wards have been built, as well as schools.
Also, 888 houses and apartments have been finished for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. “We will double our efforts in 2018, and many individuals and companies have called to give help”, Djurić concluded.
